Japanese Research Association ADMAT select Avantium’s Flowrence XR high throughput catalyst testing system to accelerate their research

Sep 10, 2019

Amsterdam, 10 September 2019 – The Research Association of High-Throughput Design and Development for Advanced Functional Materials (ADMAT) in Japan selected Avantium to deliver a Flowrence XR high throughput catalyst testing system to accelerate their research.

ADMAT was established in 2016 under the approval of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan. The association consists of 18 member corporations including leading Japanese chemical companies.

“The Flowrence XR will be used to reduce the current time required for discovering and developing revolutionary functional materials and catalysts. The main application for the unit is the synthesis of Butadiene from Ethanol”, said ADMAT.

The test unit was designed to withstand reactor pressures up to 500 bar which makes it compliant with stringent Japanese safety certifications. In addition, it is equipped with Avantium’s patented Microfluidic  Distribution, enabling it to accurately discriminate small differences in catalyst performance. The new testing platform will installed on National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology  (AIST)  campus in Tsukuba, Japan early 2020.

“It is good to see that more and more Japanese companies, such as ADMAT, recognize the unique value Avantium brings to advanced catalysis R&D, through its Flowrence units in combination with our in-depth application knowledge”, said Steven Olivier, Managing Director of Avantium Catalysis.  “Furthermore, the supply of this unit confirms how Flowrence can accelerate research into sustainable chemistry”.

About Flowrence

Avantium’s Flowrence Technology® is an advanced high-throughput platform for high-quality testing of catalysts. The Flowrence Technology® can be used for a broad range of industrial applications that operate in gas, vapor or trickle phases. The parallel-reactor system combines the reproducibility of larger-scale reactors with the advantages of small-scale reactors such as intrinsic safety, high accuracy, low costs per experiment and, ultimately, faster time-to-market. The Flowrence Technology® is leading for refinery, green chemistry and many other applications. The combination of Avantium’s broad knowledge of applications and the Flowrence Technology® creates a powerful, cost-efficient method of testing catalysts and a faster way to bring new products to market.
