Axel’One Campus at IRCELYON inaugurated with two new Avantium catalyst testing units

Apr 23, 2018

  • Two Avantium Flowrence® units at the core of the facility in Lyon, France
  • Units designed to significantly enhance R&D output and allow testing under demanding conditions

Amsterdam/Lyon, 23 April 2018: Axel’One Campus, an academically-oriented research facility, is inaugurated today. Two Avantium Flowrence® units are hosted at the core of the facility, which is under the leadership of research laboratory IRCELYON. One of the Flowrence® units will be used for gas-to-liquid applications. It has been designed to significantly enhance R&D output and has the flexibility to allow testing within a wide range of process conditions under demanding circumstances. The second unit is tailored for gas phase applications in which catalytic powders and shaped catalysts can be tested.

Steven Olivier, MD Catalysis of Avantium, says: “We are very proud that IRCELYON/CNRS has chosen to work with Avantium. This re-emphasizes the great value that our unique offering of leading technology, combined with in-depth understanding of applications, brings to renowned companies and research institutes such as IRCELYON/CNRS. We are keen to see the first scientific breakthroughs that will underline the power of using our equipment.”

David Farrusseng, Research Director at IRCELYON, says: “We are very excited to start running Avantium’s Flowrence Technology® in our brand new Axel’One Campus facility. We strongly believe that cutting-edge equipment operated by skilled engineers and researchers is a winning approach for debottlenecking R&D in the development of catalysts for energy and environmental applications. Combined with the unique catalyst characterization platform of IRCELYON in Europe, the two Flowrence Technology® units are key assets for accelerating catalyst discoveries.”

Avantium’s Flowrence Technology® is an advanced high-throughput platform for high-quality testing of catalysts. The Flowrence Technology® can be used for a broad range of industrial applications that operate in gas, vapor or trickle phases. The parallel reactor system combines the reproducibility of larger-scale reactors with the advantages of small-scale reactors such as intrinsic safety, high accuracy, low costs per experiment and, ultimately, faster time-to-market. The Flowrence Technology® is leading for refinery, green chemistry and many other applications. The combination of Avantium’s broad knowledge of applications and the Flowrence Technology® creates a powerful, cost-efficient method of testing catalysts and a faster way to bring new products to the market.
