Amsterdam/Seoul, 3 May 2018: Avantium has joined forces with South Korea-based R&F Chemical to boost its Catalysis business in the region. South Korea has a highly-advanced technology and chemical sector, and several established national research facilities offering the perfect environment for Avantium’s Catalysis business with a strong focus on catalysis research. Through R&F Chemical, Avantium expects to generate leads for its Flowrence® units as well as for its service projects. The two companies have entered into an agency agreement to explore opportunities in this fast-growing sector.
Rudolf Wessels, Business Development Director of Avantium: “We are very proud to work with R&F Chemical. This step underlines the value of our unique offering, which combines leading technology with an in-depth understanding of applications, and resonates with R&F’s expectation of market potential in South Korea. We really value R&F’s strong network in the South Korean chemical sector and expect this agreement to significantly boost sales over the next one to two years.”
Peter Park, President of R&F Chemical, says: “We expects that Avantium’s catalysis technology will accelerate the research and development of chemical related companies, universities and research institutes in Korea. We aim to achieve the value of Avantium’s advance into the Korean market, thereby becoming a global chemical platform company. We will focus on exploring the key customers of Avantium in Korea and on determining which unit and service project of Avantium is best suited to meet the needs of the customer.”
Avantium’s Flowrence Technology® is an advanced high-throughput platform for high-quality testing of catalysts. The Flowrence Technology® can be used for a broad range of industrial applications that operate in gas, vapor or trickle phases. The parallel-reactor system combines the reproducibility of larger-scale reactors with the advantages of small-scale reactors such as intrinsic safety, high accuracy, low costs per experiment and, ultimately, faster time-to-market. The Flowrence Technology® is leading for refinery, green chemistry and many other applications. The combination of Avantium’s broad knowledge of applications and the Flowrence Technology® creates a powerful, cost-efficient method of testing catalysts and a faster way to bring new products to market.

Avantium is a leading technology company specialized in advanced catalytic research, with groundbreaking innovation as its primary goal. The Amsterdam-based company does this through two distinct propositions: Catalysis and YXY. Its mission is to make customers successful by providing smart and fast solutions, based on its unique technology, knowledge and expertise.
Avantium’s Catalysis business offers solutions ranging from sophisticated R&D systems and services to fully integrated long-term collaborative partnerships. Over the last 15 years, Avantium has invented or co-invented multiple new catalysts, new chemical processes and realized significant cost savings, allowing customers to achieve their business objectives far more quickly than was previously possible. The global customer base Avantium has built for its R&D services and systems includes market leaders such as BP, Shell, IFPEN, Sinopec and CRI. The Flowrence technology is also widely deployed in the not-for-profit sector with customers such as the University of Cape Town, Utrecht University, CSIRO, Lille University, Pacific Northwest National Laboratories and Argonne National Laboratory.
About R&F Chemical
R&F is a platform company in the chemical industry that develops and supplies products that customers want with differentiated technology and enthusiasm. From functional resin to composite film, R&F explores the needs of a variety of customers and creates new values based on R&F’s chemical and polymer expertise and experience. Beyond R&D, R&F operates in a C&D way that ‘C’onnects with the customers to ‘D’evelop the technology. In other words, R&F identifies the customer trend, and solves the problem through a technical meeting with the customers. R&F supplies PO resin from global petrochemical company Dow, Exxon Mobil, LG Chemical, Lotte Chemical and Hanwha Chemical to Korea, and uses the resin to develop high performance compounds. R&F also supplies self-adhesive, anti-static, high strength engineering plastic and eco – friendly films to a number of global companies, including LG Chemical, LG Hausys and Samsung SDI. R&F has recently signed a contract with a Korean exclusive agent in the Netherlands Avantium, the catalysis research and development leader, to grow into a global chemical platform company, and to become a catalysis research and development scale-up platform company.
